getting set for a San Diego wedding at the Grand Del Mar

engagement session in San Diego

when misheal and john booked us last year their San Diego wedding at The Grand Del Mar was set to be our first wedding of 2011, but shannon and chris slid in at the last minute and swiped the pole position. as a consolation, john and misheal’s engagement session in san diego was my first of 2011. i say my, not our, because i was el lobo solo photographer that day. kim usually shoots with me but she was practically on her death bed, coughing so hard she almost turned inside out.

but i digress.

john, misheal, and i picked a gloomy day in january and headed out into the sticks.  i have to give john and misheal huge props for braving the mud, sticks, knee deep holes, and elements with me… for as long as we could. we had to call a quick close to our session when the skies over san diego opened up and started dumping rain on us like we were standing under niagara falls. from the time we felt the first steady sprinkles and decided to head back to our cars, we didn’t make it 20 steps before we were completely drenched. as john and i did our best man-walk back towards our cars misheal blew by us in a full sprint, a la the tortoise and the hare. as john and i said our quick good byes i had to laugh. i looked completely ridiculous speed walking with my giant bag of camera gear and two big cameras stuffed under my soaking wet t-shirt. to the nearby hikers and mountain bikers i must’ve looked like a promo scene from that show about the worlds dumbest criminals.

hopefully i’ll have kim back by my side and clear skies overhead for john and misheal’s wedding. (coming up really soon btw.)

we could not be more excited!

see you soon john and misheal!
