this is the story of allan and jessica’s wedding at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, by way of allan’s midnight marriage proposal on new years eve at disneyland under the fireworks.
when we wake up tomorrow it will be a new year, a new decade, and the first day of the two thousand tweens (trademark pending).
we made it through 2010.
if you’re reading this, so did you. do you feel accomplished? you should. it wasn’t easy, but we did it. somehow, we did it, and we are better for it. 2011 is a shiny new year filled with hope and promise and only half the trans fats. it’s a good feeling… thinking about what’s out there waiting for us. i don’t know about you, but i’m excited.
jessica and allan will be facing this new year red-rover style, hand in hand, as newlyweds. it was midnight last new years eve, at disneyland, when allan proposed to jessica.
distracted by the bright flashes of color from the fireworks above, jessica did not see allan’s nervousness. with her eyes glued to the sky, she took a piece of strawberry funnel cake in her hand and did not see allan take out a white ring box in his. like a soldier trying to get out an urgent message from the front lines, allan’s words were interrupted by pops and explosions. his first attempt was inaudible. his second, broken like a bad cell phone connection, but partially received. to his dismay, the part that was received was not understood and was quickly dismissed by jessica with a no-look hand wave and a “just a minute, the fireworks are almost over.” unwilling to give up, allan tried once again to get his message through. this time it reached it’s mark, although full comprehension was slightly delayed. jessica was in mid “shush” when suddenly she stopped, turned, and saw allan’s face. she then looked down and saw the ring box in his hand. no more words were needed. jessica happily lunged for allan and quickly covered the white ring box with her strawberry funnel cake fingerprints.
posting these images from their wedding at the Rancho Bernardo Inn couldn’t come at a more appropriate time. as we count down the last hours of 2010 on this new years eve, i’ll be thinking of how awesome their wedding was and how sweet it must have been to pull off the ultimate proposal at disneyland on new years eve at midnight under the fireworks. nicely done allan.
ring. ring. hello. hi, it’s awesome wedding shoes.
i’m not even Catholic, but i love this old rosary that jessica’s grandma gave her when she was 7.
old, new, borrowed, blue, and lucky. jessica borrowed the blue ring from her mom and the other ring from her grandma. her silver locket contained a feather, for good luck. all were a nice addition to jessica’s beautiful bouquet from Peggi at Metro Floral.
jessica is our favorite kind of bride… fun and beautiful through and through.
no peeking mom!
i snapped this just before allan got his first look at how stunning jessica looked in her wedding dress.
jessica and allan’s first look was amazing. you could feel the anticipation. when allan turned and saw jessica he was speechless. his face saying what he couldn’t. looking at his beautiful bride-to-be, allan gathered his breath and quietly said to her “are you sure you want to marry me?” it was one of the most touching moments i have ever witnessed.
the reflection of love.
allan and jessica exited their ceremony like kids walking away from an ice cream truck.
allan and his boys were looking sharp, but don’t let the serious looks and suits fool you. these guys are all a bunch of comedians. they had kim practically crying from laughing so hard.
there’s no one more beautiful than a bride on her wedding day, but these girls all come in a very close second.
jessica and allan had huge smiles every time i walked by them. i’m seriously considering wearing jeggings to every wedding now.
first dance as husband and wife
first drink as groomsmen.
in the reception hall, jessica and allan displayed a few of their favorite shots from their engagement session in old town san diego and coronado. here are a couple.
this vintage cake topper that sat atop jessica’s grandparents wedding cake years ago was an awesome way to finish off jessica and allan’s delicious wedding cake from Babycakes Bakery in San Diego.
they’re not called baby cakes for nothing. these cupcakes were ah-mazing btw. the blood orange cupcakes were insane good!
jessica and allan had one of our favorite brides of all time, kimberly, be their “day of” wedding coordinator. kimberly, you did such a great job! thank you so much for going above and beyond to help get things set up for us to photograph some of the details before the crowds walked in.
brides, here are just a couple reasons why you should hire a wedding coordinator to help you, even if it’s only for the day. they take care of things that you may be too busy to even think about and they keep everyone on task. less stress for you equals a happier day. wedding coordinators like kimberly are invaluable. we love her to pieces.

allan turned the reception into the player’s club, and he was working for tips.
freak-a-zoids, robots, please report to the dancefloor.
i love the bouquet jessica threw. it was a bunch of single roses with various notes about love, family, and friendship on them.
it’s like rain on your wedding day
thank you allan and jessica! kim and i loved our time with you. walking around old town with all the dia de la muerta decorations up was fun, but your wedding was awesome. thanks for braving the rain and leaving your guests for a moment to let us catch these last few shots of you on your big day. we love showing other people how much you are in love. you’re so sweet!
congratulations allan and jessica! we are so stoked for you two.
happy new year! hope it’s good to you.
a little back story on the ring shots. jessica grew up with a tradition of picking apples and introduced allan to it after they met. it has become one of the things that reminds them of each other, so when they told us about it we had to incorporate a couple apples into the ring shot. if an apple a day keeps the doctor away, what does two apples do?
jessica and allan spent several hours on their very first date at dave and busters playing air hockey (whilst recovering). the story made us laugh.
this last ring shot just came to us on the day of the wedding. no back story for this one. it was raining and we just thought it would be fun to catch a drop of rain exploding behind allan and jessica’s rings. sorry if you go into this shot with your mind pre-blown.

I loved reading their story! The first look shots and the ones in the rain are beautiful!
