let me paint the scene so you could see. red eye flight, destination new jersey.
got no sleep, stayed up listening to my ipod. kim’s thrilled we landed, singing praises to God.
train ride from newark to nyc, eyes glowing red. no sleep till brooklyn playing in my head.
subway takes us there, it’s early, but already hot. climb up to street level to see the spot.
the summer sun squints my eyes. east coast humidity is not playin. car horns blasting non-stop, cross the street here? you better be prayin.
so many people. they’re in windows, in buildings, on blocks. suddenly, i really appreciate plants, animals, and rocks.
amidst all this motion i see something still. it’s a garden, with flowers, trees, and a hill.
a tree grows in brooklyn. go there and see. it’s not just a book, movie, or something bugs bunny taught us on t.v.
brooklyn is the place, the place cameron and marcella were wed. brooklyn is the place kim used a metal napkin dispenser as a bed.
true story. the morning we arrived in brooklyn we were so tired that kim laid her head on a napkin dispenser in our hotel lobby and actually fell asleep on it. luckily, we had about 5 hours to catch some zzz’s and get ready before meeting cameron and marcella for the first time. we had never met in-person before. no, we didn’t meet on match.com or in a call of duty modern warfare 2 online battle. they found us on the awesome wedding blog, style me pretty. after a short email and telephone courtship, we knew we were meant for one another. with their date in our calendar, we started planning our trip to the big apple. those people that say “long distance relationships never work out” were about to be proven wrong.
cameron and marcella, we had the time of our lives, and we owe it all to you! thank you for everything! not even the sleep deprivation could remove the smiles from our faces after meeting you two. after your wedding, while we were sitting on that cold marble floor in newark, kim and i were talking about how blown away we were by you two. it was insanely obvious, to anyone that saw you on your wedding day, that you two are totally in-love and thrilled to be married. everyone in the room could see it. let’s just say that if you were playing poker, you would have lost big time. your first look said it all. when cameron turned around and saw you marcella, you both had the raddest smiles and a look of complete happiness. being around you two made kim and i happy. we love to see when other people find their lobster. seriously, the two days we spent with you will forever be among our favorite memories.
congratulations cam and marcella! we wish you all the happiness life has to offer. i can’t think of two more deserving people.

a sampling of cameron and marcella’s vinyl collection made a sweet, and fitting, backdrop for marcella’s rad blue wedding shoes by carlos santana. yes, that carlos santana.
yep, pretty much the reaction all moms have when they see their daughter (or daughter in-law) in her wedding dress.
even without her maggie sottero wedding dress and thomas knoell jewelry marcella is stunning, but they didn’t hurt.
cameron and marcella’s first look was sooo worth the wait. we love these faces! cameron almost got us when he started welling up before he even turned to see marcella. of course, after he turned we all lost it.
before going any further into this post i have to give HUGE PROPS to cameron and marcella’s bridal party. they were hilarious, gregarious, and just plain awesome!
… and then there was this shot. classic cam and marcella. they had kim and i crying with some of the faces they came up with.
the brooklyn botanic garden is such a beautiful location. having never been to brooklyn before, i had no idea such a place existed there. i always thought it was solid concrete and steel. thank you new york legislation of 1897 and dr. charles stuart gager for preserving this 39 acres of beautiful, natural, new york.
this image of marcella and her father walking through the garden towards the ceremony was one of my favorite images of the day. only a stunning bride like marcella could make a place like this even more amazing than it already is.
i will not cry. i will not cry. ok, i might cry a little.
it was so cute to see cameron and marcella’s ring exchange. they had fun with it. take note future couples, it’s ok to have fun on your wedding day. it’s just like any other day, just fancier.
cameron and his crew were looking sharp in their grey suits from eisenberg and eisenberg in nyc.
to complete the look they busted out custom made, color coordinated, grey checkered, classic canvas vans (my shoe of choice when not wearing sanuk.) A+ gentlemen.
marcella and her master’s of the universe stopped more traffic than the verrazano bridge toll booths. to say they are hot would be like saying an enzo ferrari costs a couple bucks. these ladies are smokin hot!
my posse’s on flatbush
i spy with my un-squinty eye, sun dried tomato focaccia.
meanwhile, back at the palm house…
preparations for cameron and marcella’s reception were being made. marcella and her friend ara from rock paper scissors events designed the whole thing. these sweet postcards, handmade with love by the newlyweds, were on everyone’s place setting.
the whole reception had a book / library / travel theme, complete with books, a globe, passport table cards, and photos from around the world that cameron had taken. each table was named for a destination cameron and marcella have been together and was adorned with colorful flowers from amy at seaport flowers and books the couple painstakingly collected. since they can’t thank themselves, i feel it my duty to point out that cameron and marcella put in about 3 million hours making all the cards and even longer collecting all the books. we think they did an amazing job. thank you marcella and cameron, for making your wedding picture perfect.
we thought this was a super cool idea. cameron and marcella made anniversary cards for each table. the cards instructed guests to write the newlyweds a message and seal the card in the envelope on the table. each envelope had a number on it. as they celebrate future anniversaries, the couple will open the envelope with the appropriate anniversary number on it and read the message from their wedding day. instant nostalgia. instant awesome!
cameron and marcella didn’t stop smiling the whole day. without a doubt, they were meant to be together.
we love a good photo bomber. sometimes we intentionally find them for our own photos, but we didn’t have to this night. nam here had us covered. he is by far our favorite photo bomber of all time. he had us laughing all night. btw, check out how in-love cameron and marcella are. aren’t they the schmoopiest?
insert your own caption here.
as if they hadn’t done enough already, cameron and marcella had these little favor packets of wildflower seeds for everyone. the little birdie on them said “love is in bloom!” and had their names and wedding date on it.
have you ever seen a wedding cake saw? cam and marcella don’t play.
the A band kept the dance floor packed. happy people and alcohol did the rest. can you spot our favorite photo bomber in these shots?
cause this is thriller, thriller night.
remember that time when cam did his personally choreographed dance for marcella to all the single ladies? we do. when he pointed to his hand during the chorus of “if you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it” kim and i lost it. cam, your face was classic. that dance was the funniest thing i’ve seen in a long time.
reason number 5082 to love cameron and marcella, they love photography. they have a vintage polaroid 450 (circa 1971-76) and actually tracked down some old film for it. cam snapped a few pictures on the dance floor. upon seeing this, the band started playing hey ya and everyone shook it like a polaroid picture.
we LOVE vintage cameras, so we had to work the old school polaroid into the ring shots.
it even has a cameron and marcella setting. how sweet is that!?
we end where cameron and marcella began, the day they met. our good friend cameron, having just moved from los angeles to new york one week earlier, was having a final four basketball bbq (ucla vs florida, or is it flo-rida) with his roommates and invited marcella’s friend over. she, in turn, invited marcella to go with her because she knew cameron would LOVE marcella. cam, my man, chose the following outfit for this particular soirée. on his back was a ucla basketball jersey. sitting atop his dome was a stuffed buffalo head hat that he picked up at mount rushmore on the cross country drive to new york. the stage was set. there was a knock at the door. cameron opened the door and saw marcella for the first time. in his words, “she was beautiful. i looked stupid.” feeling he was bullet proof in an outfit like that, he made a crack about marcella’s purse.
strike one.
later, as he was manning the grill, he accidentally dropped a hot dog on the concrete. utilizing the 10 second rule, he picked up the slightly soiled sausage and placed it back on the grill. no harm. no foul. right? wrong. marcella, having witnessed this egregious event, walked right over to cameron and called him out on it.
strike two.
cam’s thoughts, “she was still beautiful.” later that evening, marcella arm wrestled a total stranger and cameron fell in love. he held her hand. she didn’t resist, or wrestle him.
home run!
and now you know… the rest of the story.
